**Learning Assessment: Experimenting with Teaching Tools**

 Discussion Leaders:
Eric Mazur, PhD, Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics
Kelly Miller, PhD, Lecturer on Applied Physics

Eric Mazur, Faculty Director of The SEAS Learning Incubator (LInc) and Kelly Miller, Faculty Associate, SEAS Learning Incubator (LInc), will lead faculty in a discussion around the incorporation of teaching tools as a key component of the learning assessment process. During this session, faculty will experiment with two teaching tools- *Perusall* and *Learning Catalytics* and identify ways in which they can use these tools in their teaching practice.

Learning Catalytics: A cloud based Assessment System enables peer interaction and peer learning and provides instructors with real-time information about student learning on a graphical dashboard display. This interactive student response tool uses students’ smartphones, tablets, or laptops to engage students in interactive tasks and thinking.

Perusall: A Collaborative E-Book Reading Tool invites students to collaboratively annotate thoughts and questions regarding readings with the goal of increasing student engagement, motivation and interactive participation.
