DESCRIPTION:
The Design of a New Course: Engineering the Acoustical World

	Discussion Leader:
Robert J. Wood, Ph.D, Charles River Professor of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; SEAS Learning Incubator, (LInc) Faculty Fellow- 2017-2018.

As a current SEAS LInc Faculty Fellow, Rob Wood has devoted his fellowship to the development of a new General Education Introductory Engineering Course, Engineering the Acoustical World, which focuses on the mathematical and physical basis of sound and music. With increased interest in Engineering and Applied Sciences among undergraduate students, this course aims to offer students the opportunity to engage in an accessible engineering course with a theme that stands to spark excitement among non-engineers; expand the role of SEAS in Harvard's Program in General Education and assist SEAS in the goal of ensuring that Harvard graduates have experience in applying engineering tools to solve multi-disciplinary problems.

SEAS Faculty are invited to join Rob Wood for a discussion around the creation of this new course; its current state; and challenges encountered. An essential part of the luncheon will center on discussion and the opportunity to exchange ideas. Faculty feedback will be welcomed and valued.
