DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Community Engaged Learning: Preparing Professionals, Enhancing Learning and Making a Difference&nbsp;</strong><br><br><span><strong>William Oakes, PhD</strong></span><br><span>Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering, a 150<sup>th</sup> Anniversary Professor, Professor of Engineering Education</span><br><span>Purdue University</span><br><br><span>Community-Engaged Learning offers many benefits for Engineering and the other STEM fields that include connecting theory with meaningful contexts and broadening participation.&nbsp; It also allows students to make a tangible impact on our world while they are students.&nbsp; &nbsp;This presentation will provide an overview of the EPICS Program, a multidisciplinary community engaged design program that is celebrating 30 years of engagement along with research findings from EPICS and a national study of Engineers Without Borders.</span><br>&nbsp;</p><table><tbody><tr><td><span>William (Bill) Oakes is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering, a 150th Anniversary Professor, Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University, and a registered professional engineer. &nbsp;He is one of the founding faculty in the School of Engineering Education. &nbsp;He was the first engineer to receive the U.S. Campus Compact Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning and a co-recipient of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering’s Bernard Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education. &nbsp; &nbsp;He is a fellow of National Society of Professional Engineers and a fellow and Hall of Fame member of the American Society for Engineering Education.</span><br>&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><table><tbody><tr><td>&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>
